How did you get started?
My boyfriend and the universe conspired! I’ve always loved cooking and writing, but it was Simon who suggested starting a food Instagram account and that eventually led to this blog! I truly believe that if you follow your passions everything else will fall into place.
What kind of camera and lens do you use?
I shoot with a Canon EOSM with a 22mm f2.0 lens. It was a Christmas present from Simon the year I started this madness and it is my best friend.
What kind of light do you shoot in?
I try to shoot in natural light 100% of the time. There’s just no comparison. I have a table set up near a large window so I’m right next to a great light source. However, if this isn’t an option for you, I recommend buying a couple natural light bulbs and a diffuser for nighttime shoots.
How do you get followers on Instagram?
Magic! Really, I don’t know. Haha. I don’t bug people for likes or tag hundreds of food accounts. I make really good use of popular food-related hash tags and I will tag accounts who repost content. Getting featured has really helped my following grow. I focus on continually improving my photography, plating skills, and presentation with each post.
Where do you get your dishes and utensils?
Thrift stores! Doing what I do (and not being a millionaire) I have no need for fancy schmancy, complete dish sets. I hit up thrift stores on weekends with my mom (she has a knack for finding amazing pieces) and I look for plates, bowls, glasses--anything that catches my eye. I like to have an eclectic mix of odds and ends that I can use for my shoots.
